Background: The Social Justice Committee, part of the parish council and comprised of parish council members as well as parishioners, is a group focused on outreach to those less fortunate in our community and beyond.
What the Ministry does: The social justice committee assists the various existing social outreach ministries at St. Catherine (i.e. the Lazarus Committee, Comitas, The Lenten Mercy Project, Angel Food Ministry among may others) in recruiting members and leaders, develops new ministries, advocates for legislative justice, and integrates social outreach activities with prayer and the Liturgy.
How the Ministry operates: The committee meets approximately once per month, while keeping in touch with ministry leaders on an ongoing basis. We are also in tune to the social justice activities of the Archdiocese of Hartford, along with the resources they offer to area parishes related to social justice.
When does the Ministry take action: The committee takes action when new leadership is needed for outreach ministries, when a new ministry is to be initiated, on an ongoing basis to recruit more members for existing ministries, and in general when there is a need in the community for social outreach and charity.
Why the Ministry may be right for you: The Social Justice Committee is a good place for those who see the big picture of the needs of the downtrodden and marginalized in our community and beyond, and want to help through direct ministry or by rooting out the causes of social injustice.
