Some confusion arises when announcements are made about our ministries to feed those without sufficient food. Here is a little breakdown of Pantry Partners, Feed The Hungry Ministry and St. Elizabeth House...
Simsbury Neighbors in Need may be our parents, our neighbors down the lane, or even our fellow parishioners who are finding it difficult to manage their household budgets due to the skyrocketing costs of fuel, medicine and food. In combination with our very own Pantry Partners of Saint Catherine of Siena, which provides monthly food baskets to a growing list each month, created by SavMore Market of Bloomfield and through the generos-ity of the Marandino family, we are able to offer a selection of meats and poultry, seasonal vegetables and fruits, and much needed staples to support local families with help for their food budgets.
Thank you to our monthly Pantry Partners of Saint Catherine of Siena crew who worked "double duty" this month— on Saturday they distributed the monthly boxes of food for No-vember, then on Sunday they distributed Thanksgiving boxes complete with turkey and all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The Sunday boxes were provided by the Gabel Brigade and we appreciate their joining our efforts to make Simsbury residents truly grateful on Thanksgiving Day. I received a lovely card in the mail on Tuesday from a group of senior citizens in town that was heartwarming. They wanted to thank you, the people of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, for the monthly food boxes they receive. They said, "We appreciate the food boxes we receive each month. It helps out a lot, for those of us who are retired and on fixed incomes. Also, a great big Thanks for the Thanksgiving Dinner. WOW!!" There was a big heart drawn in the note. Reading notes like this really makes you realize just how blessed one is. Thanks for all you do!
The July distribution date for St. Catherine's Pantry Partners is July 21. There are changes to the menu due to summer's harvest! We will substitute 4 ears of corn for the potatoes in St. Catherine's Garden bag. In the Welcome Table box there will be 1 1/2 lbs of summer squash instead of butternut squash, and in the Family Blessings box 4 ears of corn will be added and the summer squash will be increased to 2 lbs. We have a new e-mail address, so please send all correspondence to scpp2013@gmail.com. We are working on the website and hope to have it updated soon. Thank you for your continued support of this important ministry.
Pantry Partners of St. Catherine’s held its second distribution day last Saturday. While we had to move our site to St. Mary’s School, everyone put forth a tremendous effort to make this a successful and joyful experience for all - organizers, volunteers, and participants.
