This weekend we begin an elongated discussion on the meaning of Christian Eucharist in the Gospel of John. The multiplication of the loaves and fishes is the only “miracle” that is included in all four Evangelists. John does have his own, unique take on this event. CLICK TO READ MORE...
As you can see from the work begun, the final phase of our parking lot repair and expansion is underway and we plan to finish this repair program by this September. Additionally, we should, this weekend, see the floor of the sanctuary replaced and upgraded, then the Crucifix rehung above the altar, and the lighting behind the columns installed...CLICK FOR MORE DETAIL
As we progress forward with the new Stations of the Cross, I would like to explain a little bit about their design, placement and the act of memorializing them for loved ones. A Catholic tradition of praying the Stations of the Cross calls the faithful to come together and follow the Way of the Cross through the Church, reenacting Christ’s own road to Calvary. Our journey here at St. Catherine has been limited with small Stations posted on the back sanctuary wall, often times getting lost on the large rear sanctuary wall...
The Church interior renovations are well underway. The stained glass window is in, the rear wall lighting and painting is completed, the stenciling of the Beatitudes is being planned, the stone wall feature is in and the wall has been reinforce, and then the sanctuary floor will begin next week. There is nothing ordinary about Ordinary Time. This weekend’s readings hit that point home for us. As we live in a culture that “weasel words” everything or states difficult situations in a “politically correct message,” these readings presented by the Church this weekend have our Lord and God speak to us directly and to some point even uncomfortably frank, but nonetheless not without hope! Last week I was saddened to receive a letter from a parishioner who stated that their family was formally leaving the parish because “…I cannot in good conscious remain a member of a community that makes a big deal about religious freedom as a thinly-veiled protest of same-sex marriage.” I was sad not only because of the theological misunderstanding on which the writer’s letter was based, but also because of a confused understanding on the Fortnight for Freedom PLEASE CLICK TO READ MORE....
Your Women's Club Ministry is sponsoring an exciting new cookbook project to be readied for Christmas giving, 2015. Titled "Saint Catherine of Siena Heavenly Hosts”, it will contain a collection of your family favorite recipes, contributed by YOU, our very own cooks and bakers. We ask all our parishioners to please contribute your tried and true food traditions, preferably in digital form. This will be our first fundraising effort of the Fall 2015 season, benefiting the "Hands of Christ" service award and other Women's Club activities.
It’s “A sad state for a state to be in” said Evita Peron or so she is attributed saying, but while the Argentine First Lady wasn’t talking about marriages we can say the same thing about the state of marriage in our country today. Weddings are down and the cause is due a number of concerns: a poor economy, lots of college debt on not-so-new graduates, as well as the decline of the American family evidenced in our culture and seen in music, television, movies and politics...CLICK TO READ MORE
In today’s first reading we hear that while a people may not listen to a prophet’s words they will know a prophet by the way they image God among them. In the second reading St. Paul illustrates to us that when he is weak God makes him strong by the fact that Paul is open to God’s grace; with God nothing is impossible: In the Gospel today, we learn that it is a lack of faith on the people’s part that becomes the obstacle to God’s power being manifested for them. It is only by God’s grace that we can be completely free...CLICK TO READ MORE...
