In this weekend's gospel, Jesus draws an even deeper and very clear line in the sand between Himself and the Pharisees - Christ is very opposed to hypocrisy and spiritual barrenness! In fact, this passage in the gospel follows the cleansing of the Temple and the cursing of the fig tree - a parable that speaks of judgment coming upon those who feign goodness but fail to bear the fruit of righteousness. This parable, unique to Matthew, sounds surprisingly contemporary in its description of the plight of modern day laborers in the ancient world. It is a story about the nature of the Kingdom of God in which the main character is an enigmatic "owner" whose behavior, or at least in the eyes of his workers, is eccentric at best. I want to start out with a very sincere and heartfelt thank-you to all the parishioners for the prayers and good wishes to both me and Margaret Domashinski, my donor, for our collective speedy and complete recoveries. The cards, with beautiful notes, which I have received here at the rectory, are amazing and overwhelming. I cannot begin to offer and appropriate thank-you but will attempt to do so, particularly by prayers for you and your families. Thank you! CLICK TO READ ENTIRE NOTE...
Just a reminder of the importance of the Census mailing you recently received. As the Archdiocese reviews the growth or decline of a parish, its effectiveness in communicating the Gospels’ Good News, and the way in which it meets the spiritual needs of individuals and promotes the Church’s teachings, we need to “make our case” that we are a growing and vibrant parish. I know that for various reasons some people feel uneasy about registering in a parish. BUT it is important and very necessary. Here are some "myth busters" for registering: CLICK TO READ MORE
In our Christian Kingdom of God, the most treasured possession is the Cross of Christ. The hearts and minds of people were captured not by a sword or by a treacherous scheme, but by the laying down of one's sinless life so that all others, those of us who are weak and mortal, might live in freedom - freedom from the alienation of sin, freedom from unending death. Christ died upon the Cross so that we might live forever, and live in the absolute perfection and joy of God's divine presence. CLICK TO READ MORE...
So far the parking lot is on schedule, weather permitting and thanks to the great work and leadership by Hugh Caldwell and Mike Grappone. Recently a town official stopped by to review the status of the project and he very freely informed us how lucky we were to have Caldwell Excavating managing this project. That is the truth! As you can see the new parking lot lights are being installed as I write in both the new lot and the current lot. Lighting is important as previously we had only two stadium-style lights, now we will have 24 lights in both lots. The increase is due to safety and zoning. CLICK TO READ MORE...
