(A storytime for young children ages 3-8) Saturday, September 23, 6 p.m. in Russell Hall This year, youth ministry has started a new program to have our teens \engage with the younger children in our parish. Our youth ministry teens are great role models for our younger children, and the children in our parish look up to them.
Once a month through December, youth ministry is piloting a program called Once Upon A Book. Our first program is Saturday, September 23, immediately following the 5 pm Mass. Children ages 3-8 are invited to join us in Russell Hall for a brief Storytime and light refreshments/snacks with our youth ministry teens. Father has even suggested that young children can come to Mass in their pajamas if they are comfortable. And they are welcome to bring a blanket to sit on in Russell Hall too.
Depending on how many children sign up, we may break the group into two, a 3-5 year old group and a 6-8 year old group. All the books will be available in the youth ministry office, and all are great children's stories with a good moral to the story. Some programs may also have an age-appropriate song/music or craft component.
Some of the books that we will read during these months include Cynthia Rylant's Give Me Grace, Nicholas Oldland's Up The Creek, Drawing God by Karen Kiefer, The Tale of Three Trees - A Traditional Folktale retold by Angela Hunt, and many others.
Parents are required to stay during our program, and we expect it to last about 30-40 minutes. Parents can stay with their child, or they can gather either in a conference room or in RH, depending on the number of children that we have and what room we use.
