Mission Team 2017 arrived home safely from our week of service in Dover, Delaware. We felt the prayerful support of the St. Catherine of Siena community all week.
Our work sites this year were varied and a departure from the familiar. Some of us worked at The Boys and Girls Club, others were at a women and children’s shelter, the food bank, or the animal rescue zoo. Most of us spent the week outside with home repair projects such as power washing, painting, and home restoration for seniors and the physically challenged of the Dover area. Still others, worked under the hot, humid, Delaware sun on weeding and clean- up projects. Despite the sunburn and bug bites, the St Catherine’s youth ministry teens prevailed in their service to others. We were reminded to be grateful for the comforts of a bed, a hot shower, and the luxury of air conditioning. Our bus ride home was quiet - possibly everyone was sound asleep, including the chaperones.
Thank you to the most generous St. Catherine of Siena community for your financial support of our teens and for your prayerful intentions during our youth ministry service endeavors. A special note of thanks to the chaperones who gave up a week away from their family and their jobs to make this trip possible. You have my deepest respect and gratitude: Karen Carew, Julianna Thompson Capozzoli, Debbie Hammel, Manuela Hanshaw, Denis Horrigan and Charlie Page.
