Too busy to commit to a full day’s work of missionary activity? Can’t spend an afternoon at a shelter or rehab a home, paint a fence or help out an elderly neighbor?
Over the next two weekends you will have a grand opportunity to help with one of the above mentioned ministries and corporal and spiritual works of mercy without even giving up an afternoon or even five or ten minutes. How?
Our Youth Ministry is working on another mission trip. This time instead of urban Boston they will travel to upstate New York and work with people in rural setting. There will be yard work, house repairs and other manual labor. They will have opportunities to see how it feels to be of service to another. Christ gave us the perfect example of caring: He encountered the poor and the sick and the disadvantaged and He did not remove them from His sight but rather engaged them and entered into their lives. He fed them, healed them, He cared for them. Today, our younger parishioners who are really starting out in the own faith lives, will be doing similar acts of compassion.
And you can help. And it can be fun too. For $20 you can purchase a Boston Red Sox lawn sign (yeah, there’s another team being offered too but…) and show your pride in our New England team (when in Rome…) as well as support the good works of our own youth ministry young adults. Inspire them with your support to continue the work of Christ and His Church. Buy a
lawn sign and receive a Fenway Frank—the more lawn signs you buy, the more Fenway Franks (America’s best hotdog) you get…and the more good works you do by supporting our youth. Help them join the Catholic team of Disciples.
You can’t take me out to the ballpark and you can take your lawn signs out to your front lawn as well as help take the youth on their summer mission trip.
