As pastor I am reaching out to all our Mass attendees and I am asking for your assistance. Our parish is in need of additional ushers and lead ushers at our Masses.
What does a Lead usher do? A lead usher arrives early before the Mass begins and organizers those who will help take up the collection, locates and confirms the family who will bring up the bread and wine in the offertory as well as welcomes people to Mass and offers them assistance to a pew (especially after the Mass has begun). Lead ushers are scheduled for Mass as part of the Ministry Pro Scheduler system we use at St. Catherine of Siena for altar servers, lectors and Eucharistic Ministers (it is an online scheduling system you use to select the Masses you normally attend).
What does an usher do? A regular usher helps take up the collection during the offertory so
that the Mass may continue uninterrupted and that the gifts (which are the collection and offertory bread and wine) come to the altar in a timely manner, taking direction from the assigned lead usher. Non-lead ushers are not scheduled but rather are selected by the lead usher at each Mass. There is training for both of these volunteer positions and I truly hope that you will consider this ministry that happens while you are already at Mass (no extra meetings or activities. Please call the parish office at 658 1642.
