The gospel this weekend is from St. Luke who speaks to us about preparation for the “…day that will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth…be vigilant…” That Last Day, like taxes, will come. Will you and I be prepared, as good Catholics, to meet the Lord and be judged? Will the outcome of eternal life be a real “surprise to me?” Well, because of a loving God, that “surprise” is up to us individually. What do we choose today? How am I living my life? How do I spend the gifts given to me by the Lord? Am I really His Disciple, more than just by the words I tell everyone or the masks I wear?
Like the gospel mentions, it is easy to become “drowsy” by everyday life. It is easy to miss my prayers, forget to make my sandwiches, or become indifferent to all the “asks” of me—by the Church— asks by family, friends, and work. I am busy! The question is, am I vigilant in my faith life…or am I too Fr. Michael continued… busy with other things like my children’s 4 sports, or the extra time at work, or in doing the prow can I, Lord, learn to procrastination of everyday life…how Lord, can I learn to prioritize what really matters?
Not to be too redundant but, it all goes back to the above-mentioned themes and focus of the Season of Advent: reflection and prayer; what is truly important to me—success in this world or Glory in Eternal Life? Ah, that Free Will again…
