This weekend’s gospel is vitally important for everyone, but especially for our Confirmation students and their parents, as the gospel illustrates Luke’s purpose to portray the power and importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
I will highlight this key theme in my homily this weekend.
It is vital not only for the salvation of our eternal souls, but especially to fight against our current culture that encourages some parents and students to view Confirmation as a “graduation from the Catholic faith”, and not as a springboard into Eternal salvation. Today’s culture prioritizes sports and feelings over faith and salvation, yet statistics illustrate too many Catholics are buying into the culture…even though most of us won’t play sports beyond high school but all of us will face the Lord at the end of earth’s time. Luke’s gospel doesn’t harangue us but rather lobbies us to the Truth
