I would love you to consider being a lector, Eucharistic minister, or altar server. The church runs smoothly when the priest and the laity all perform their roles both in the liturgy (at Mass) and in the parish (in ministries).
Vatican II called for the “full and active participation of the laity in rhetorical Church. That means at Mass to respond to the prayers of the priest (Mass is a dialogue), in singing, and in the running of the parish, i.e., being active in ministries, supporting the church through time, talent and treasure. When this happens, then the church is enriched by all her members.
So please consider and pray about being a lector and proclaim the readings at Mass; consider being an extraordinary ministerof the Eucharistic and distribute Christ in Mass at Communion time; and, serve at the altar assisting the priest with the celebration of the Holy Mass. these are all proper roles of the people—and aide in the celebration of the Holy Mass.
So how does this all work?
1. Pray and consider serving God and your parish in one of these ministries.
2. Call the parish office (658-1642) and have your name added to our schedule.
3. You will be trained at a near future date.
4. You will receive (for lectors) a training book for readings, pronunciation of words and names. You are not left alone.
5. Ministry scheduler, in light of your choices (times, dates, etc.) will schedule you for service at Masses.
6. Then we’re off! Thank you, and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask me or call the parish office.
For those already on our “Mass team” If you currently are a lector, Eucharistic minister, or altar server and you see:
1. That we only have one or two altar servers (we need 3 at each Mass), please come out of the pews, vest and join us in the sanctuary.
2. For lectors, there should be two in the procession, if not, offer to assist; and,
3. For Eucharistic ministers, we need a total of 6 including the priest celebrant. If you are at Mass and are trained as an EM, please come up at the appropriate time in the Communion Rite. 4. And, kindly pay close attention to the “sub request” on the automated Ministry Pro Scheduler.
