What a wonderful night we enjoyed for our Interfaith Thanksgiving Service last Sunday. Nearly 700 filled the church to hear Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and the Christian denominations prayers giving thanks to God for all our blessings. And then…what a blessing we had in the combined choirs—amazing! The music, the instruments, and the magnificent voices! I was mightily impressed with the talent of so many local folks…and as Saint Benedict is quoted as say-ing, "When you sing, you pray twice!" Absolutely!
I want to thank in a particular way our very own
Susan Zybert, director of music here at Saint Catherine of Siena, for all her time, energy and talent which she put into this event, which was her idea to have St. Catherine of Siena host it. It was indeed a labor of love—and you should have seen her face as she beamed with joy as she directed the combined children’s choir. If you are not a regular attendee of our 11 a.m. Sunday Mass you should try it and hear our very own adult choir some Sunday. Under Susan’s
direction, it has grown both in numbers and in talent—and now we have
Mercedes Featherston as the accompanist so that Susan is able to direct the choir. Susan holds a graduate degree in choral direction. Come by and listen to their wonderful sounds.
And sincere and grateful thanks to
Tina Yablonksi for oversee-ing the collation which followed the Interfaith Prayer Service— Christian hospitality is a virtue and we excelled that night. Thanks, Tina and company. To all our bakers, the food was not only plentiful but also fantastic—the busiest place was around the dessert table all night long. Thank you! To our official greeters, thanks for welcoming our guests to our parish and for helping them navigate an unfamiliar building—it was a nice and warm welcome. And last but not least, a major thanks to Barbara Hop-kins for designing and putting in place the flowers in our sanctuary for this festive occasion. Our house of worship—our home— looked beautiful. Heartfelt thanks to all who were involved and attended this Thanksgiving Service.
