Ushers are an important part of the liturgical ministry. That may sound a bit odd, but usher do a lot more than simply take up the collections. They are also sup-posed to welcome folks into the Church and to assist people in locating a seat—even those who come in after the Mass has already begun. If we are to truly be a welcoming Church, then it isn’t enough simply to say “join us” but rather we have to welcome them into our family by more than words.
I would like to ask for your help. Whether you are a man or a woman, we need to engage some additional ushers into our program—young, old and in-between. And it is a great ministry to be involved in since it requires your help while you are already here at Church—“no extra hours are required.”
I will hold a meeting on December 9th at 7 p.m. at the rectory and I invite you to consider joining this ministry. Aside from being a welcoming voice, ushers do take up the collection seeing to it that there are enough ushers at each Mass to ensure that the collection and gifts taken up at the offertory are done in a smooth and speedy effort. I hope you will consider joining this ministry.
Thanks for your consideration, -Fr. Michael.
