As a faith community, we are called to be people of prayer—and that is what we shall do. We need to pray for our Nation and all in our government who lead her. For the President and First Lady, for our Speaker of the House and Senate and House Majority- and Minority-Leaders, and for everybody up-and-down the tickets and at every level of government.
St. Paul tells us to pray for our leaders—no matter who they are or how much we like or dislike them—as they are the duly elected leaders and our hope must be the good of the nation and community in which we live; and our prayers go out to them for their efforts and vision to seek the common good for all Americans. Therefore, our prayers must support them and lift them up to the excellence for our nation and all her people.
On October 21st at 7 p.m. we will offer a prayer service for righteousness and right relationships, for valor and honor in the public arena. Let us pray for peace in our streets and in our hearts, for justice in our land, for the poor, hope for the hopeless, for good jobs which give self-worth to the person and brings forth human dignity; and, strength and inclusion for the frail and vulnerable and for those essential works who protect them. We must pray for the safety of all, no matter where they live or from where they hail. And as we all share a common human dignity in the image and likeness of our Creator God, we must pray for a coming
together of all our different gifts and talents united for the excellence of all.
In the world today much of what is proclaimed—from all sides of the aisle—is based upon emotions and criticism rather than pointing to actual facts or policy outcomes. We need prayer to bring us back to Truth and constructive conversations; we need to seek the common good.
So…let us gather in prayer for our Nation and her people. Please join us on Wednesday, October 21st at 7 p.m. Bring your prayers and heart-felt good intentions and let us unite in Christ, gathering together as one people, united in a hope for only goodness in our nation. We will light a candle, offer prayers and place our personal petitions in a bowl of HOPE before the altar, asking God to heal our nation and to bring us to a common outcome for the good of all.
