Some confusion arises when announcements are made about our ministries to feed those without sufficient food. Here is a little breakdown:
St. Catherine Pantry Partners provides monthly food boxes (boxes of blessings) to local Simsbury residents who have insufficient food each month. Boxes of both staples and fresh
chicken, pork and other fresh vegetables and fruits help stretch the monthly food budget and provide healthy and delicious additions. If you are interested in making a donation to this great local support ministry, please do so by donating to St. Catherine of Siena Church and mark the
“memo” line with Pantry Partners. Local residents, working families and the elderly will appreciate your kindnesses. Generally the third Saturday of the month.
Feed the Hungry is a ministry that combines friends and families who once a month travel to a local Hartford food shelter and make sandwiches and soup for the shelter guests. The food is purchased by the ministry from Fitzgerald’s (who work with us on price controls—thanks!) and then the ministry participants bring the supplies with them and feed those in need. You may also donate to this wonderful charity by signing up to be involved with your family or friends (sign -up sheets are in the atrium) or make a donation to St. Catherine of Siena, and on your check “memo” line note Feed the Hungry; generally the third Saturday of the month and,
St. Elizabeth House ministry provides a monthly opportunity for parishioners to sign-up to purchase and cook specific foods for distribution at the food shelter in Hartford. Monthly
individual parishioners buy supplies to make a goulash, fresh fruit or vegetables and then cook them at home and bring them to the Church on a designated Sunday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. Individuals may sign-up to buy and prepare for or, if you don’t like to cook, serve the food at the shelter. Everyone returns to the parish by 6 p.m. that Sunday evening.Generally the last Sunday of the month.
Whatever you choose to do, one or the other ministry, donate, buy and cook a meal, or serve as helping hands of Christ—Our God will be pleased. Thank you and for more information contact 658 1642.
