On Saturday, September 25th the Archdiocese of Hartford will host a Men’s Catholic Conference at New Britain stadium beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please call the parish office, 658 1642, to reserve a free ticket. The conference will provide guest speakers who address the importance of a male role model in the Christian faith—particularly in the family setting, and the impact he has on bringing his children to faith; what the role of a Catholic father comprises, the “what” of being a Catholic dad. This event will also provide a great opportunity to hear about what other parishes are doing—what we might want to import into St. Catherine of Siena—and how to develop your own spiritual life—all to benefit your soul and the souls of those you love.
In the life of my priesthood, I have heard much wisdom from many parishioners whom I have served. The other day I heard a gem. In a conversation with a middle-aged dad about his role in his family’s faith life, he told me that his father once told him that he believed he’d meet God one day He would ask him, “What did you do with the gifts that I gave you?” He thought about what his answer might be, and he came to believe that God would be asking him about the gifts of his children—not his talent at raising money for the parish, or lecturing at Mass, but about what he thought his children about—God? Something to ponder for us all. The Men’s Catholic Conference is SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25th from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m (Doors open at 7:30 a.m.) It will be held at the New Britain Stadium. Please call 658 1642 about tickets by Monday, the 20th.
