This coming Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. our parish will host our annual Lenten penance service for everyone. It will begin with a brief prayer service, an examination of conscious and then individual confessions offered by 4 different priests.
Haven’t been to confession in a long time? No worries! The priests are here to help…and there will be cheat-sheets available in the pews, take a moment to review them and ask any questions.
Not sure what’s a sin? We are here to help: Broken relationships, ongoing family feuds, frustrated anger, lying, addictions, or any other issues or actions that separate you from God and His love.
Mortal Sin: In Roman Catholic moral theology, a mortal sin, as distinct from a venial sin, must meet all of the following conditions: Its subject must be grave (or serious) matter; It must be committed with full knowledge, both of the sin and of the gravity of the offense; It must be committed with deliberate and com-plete consent.
Venial sin [CCC1863] weakens charity… and…merits temporal punishment. Deliberate and
unrepented venial sin disposes us little by little to commit mortal sin. However, venial sin does not break the covenant with God. With God’s grace, it is humanly reparable. “Venial sin does not deprive the sinner of sanctifying grace, friendship with God, charity, and consequently, eternal happiness.” Some possible examples of venial sins are: a young child shoplifting a pack of gum or one who tells a “little white lie.”
We hope to “hear” you at confession.
