As I mentioned at all the Masses last weekend, the people of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish were amazingly generous and kind in our 2018 Advent Giving Tree program, raising a total of $98,237.79 and then directing their donations to be allocated in the following manner: to the Knights of Malta Mobile House of Care, a total of $55,856.00 and to our parish’s Neighbors in Need Fund, a total of $42,381.79! No other word can express my thanks other than AMAZING! When I spoke to Michelle Murphy, the executive director of the Malta House of Care
Foundation in Hartford, her response was shock. She was so effusive in her thanks not just about the amount of money raised but also that the people of this parish are so generous—beyond what she could have imagined. From direct donations from our parish alone, through our Advent Giving Tree program, St. Catherine of Siena has provided more than $236,856 over the last six years—and that does not include parishioners who have donated stocks directly to the Malta House of Care. That’s amazing!
We can only imagine the number of new and continuing patients who will be diagnosed, treated and given hope and healing thanks to all of you. Whether you gave $25 or $15,000—putting them all together will help people live better lives, and offer easy access to healthcare, giving them a hope-filled feeling that comes with knowing that people do care about you. The same applies to the Neighbors In Need program, we will be able to respond during the year to people in our own community, our young single parents, our elderly adults in need, and those who are in real hardship. Thank you, thank you, and thank you! And that still seems so little for so
much.
