Children’s Liturgy of the Word
“Let the children come to me and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it”. Luke 18:15-17
This parish program, which occurs at Sunday Mass, invites young parish children age 3-7 to join in the procession to Russell Hall after the Opening Rite to learn about Jesus, the Gospel and our Church in an interactive and age-appropriate way. The children are brought back into the church to join their parents and families at the Preparation of the Gifts. This program will be offered at the 11am Mass beginning on September 28th, October 5, 19, November 2, 16, 30, and December 14, 28. Please check the website calendar and bulletin for the dates continuing January- May.
“The primary purpose of dismissing children for a separate Liturgy of the Word is to provide them with a focused environment where they are more likely to become conscious, active listeners and responders to God’s Word.” Different from classroom instruction, Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLW) is that it is the ritual prayer (Mass) of the church. Although it does teach, it sees to better involve all the senses and the hearts of the children.
Our leaders are Julianna Capozzoli and Maureen Hilsdon, who are both experienced in leading Children’s Liturgy of the Word. All children who want to participate will be called up to the sanctuary (the space up front near the Altar) and will be blessed and sent by Father Michael. The leaders will process with the children to Russell Hall. Older siblings who would like to accompany their younger brothers and sisters are most welcome!
